Through my work with teenagers, both in schools and in private practice, I have worked with a range of mental health issues. Sadly, the pandemic seems to have affected this population as much as, if not more than, other age groups. Social media has a massive effect on mental health and also allows access to material that teenagers may not have been exposed to otherwise - for better and for worse.
As a result of the rise in mental health issues with children, I am offering parent consultations for parents who don't feel that their children require therapy but would like to have support with how to cope with their children's mental health issues. This is different to therapy in that we will work primarily with psychoeducation, developmental stages and tools to try at home. There is no "one size fits all" solution. It is important to look at your individual situation and offer tools that may suit your family's needs. Potential solutions may depend on your family's structure (eg how many children, age gaps etc), the parents relationship with each other, relationship between children and parents, the child's friendships / social groups etc.
